Sightseeing in Cologne - Cultural Sights 'Must Visit' & 'Must See'

Architecture, Museums, Cathedrals & Monuments

You will find many priceless historical and architectural monuments in Cologne. Every tourist should not forget to visit them. We encourage you to pay your attention on the ensemble of 12 Romanesque churches – the majority of religious monuments of the city were built yet in the Middle Ages. Cathedral of St. George is the most beautiful building made in the Romanesque style. Cathedrals and churches of the city were damaged seriously during the Second World War, but thanks to the efforts of talented architects and restorers they were fully restored. Wallraf-Richartz-Museum is one of the most popular museum complexes of the city. The walls of the museum keep collections of priceless historical artifacts and art exhibits.

The first building on the site of the modern Town Hall was built in the early 15th century. The Town Hall was not restored seriously until the middle of the 20th century. The building stood in its original form for more than four hundred years. During the Second World War the building was completely destroyed. Only in 1972 architects managed to complete restoration and return the former beauty of this historic building. Statues of eight prophets, which are installed in the main hall, are the main decoration of the town hall. This is only a small part of notable places that would be interesting to visit for any tourist.
