We recommend starting your sightseeing in Augsburg from the central square named Rathausplatz. Here is located the town hall – a wonderful sight of the Renaissance period. Perlachturm tower was added to the town hall in the end of the 18th century. The height of the tower estimates 80 meters. All tourists can climb this tower up and look at the views of the city from the observation deck. You should also visit the Golden Hall that has been opened in one of the rooms of the town hall. Here you will find valuable pictures and sculptures of famous German painters. Opposite to the town hall is located one of the symbols of Augsburg – a fountain, which has been created in the name of the emperor Augustine and is called after him.

Fuggerei is the oldest part of the city. Buildings located here were created in the 16th and 17th centuries, but still look wonderful. You can learn more about this quarter and its story in the Museum of Fuggerei that is opened in one of the old houses. The Cathedral of St. Maria is definitely the most notable religious building in Augsburg. The building of the cathedral started in the 9th century and lasted over 6 hundreds of years! Augsburg is a city of museums, so you should definitely visit here the Museum of Augsburg Puppet Show, the House-Museum of the Mozart family, the Museum of Maximilian II, The Museum of the Romans and the Schwabischen Architectural Museum. You can also have an unforgettable experience if you take a ride to Augsburg – Western Forests Nature Park. You can enjoy picturesque landscapes and visit several local villages there.

There is a number of interesting family houses preserved in Augsburg, among them the house-museum of Bertolda Brehta - the famous writer. This historic building was built in the 16th century and is a classic example of national architecture. In this house in 1898, was born Evgeniy Bertold Friedrich Brecht, whose life and work is now illustrated in the dedicated museum in this building. It was opened in 1998 on the 100th anniversary of the writer's birth. Today in the museum there is an interesting collection of personal belongings of the writer, and even works of art and antique furniture. 

One of the most spectacular monuments of architecture is Coat of Arms, it was built in the early 16th century. Today, the main feature of the historic building are spectacular sculptures. They depict the Archangel Michael, that plunges Satan. Until 1895 the historic building was used as an arsenal, and in the late 19th century it was converted into a fire station. The historic building was badly damaged during the Second World War; its restoration was completed only in the 80s of the last century. Today the historical building is transformed into an exhibition hall, which hosts a variety of cultural events. 

One of the most beautiful places in the city is considered to be The court garden, it is usually treated as a single complex with the residence of the archbishop. This garden was placed back in 1744, but it became recently available for visits in 1965. Today, in this beautiful garden you can see the trees and ornamental plants brought from different parts of the world, and here are even numerous antique sculptures. The historical garden has its own interesting secret: there is an open bookcase in its territory. Anyone can take out their favourite book, or bring books from their personal library. 

Fans of art will be interested to see Shetslera Palace - a beautiful 18th-century palace, which today hosts the National Art Gallery. In this museum you can see original paintings by Veronese, Canaletto and Van Dyck. By itself, the palace is also a real work of art, it is almost completely preserved within the original finish. On the walls and ceiling you can still see the gorgeous paintings and stucco, the palace itself also saved a lot of unique interior items.
