Not so long ago, the building underwent a complete reconstruction, during which many of its original decoration elements were restored. Now it is open to the public and houses the city's largest library that houses a collection of rare ancient books. Some of the halls are occupied by an art gallery, which presents a collection of sculptures and paintings of the 16th-19th centuries.
Oldenburg has several interesting museums, and the Staatliches Museum für Kunst und Kulturgeschichte introduces its guests to the history and culture of the region. One of them is dedicated to the work of the famous artist Johann Heinrich Wilhelm Tischbein who was Goethe's close friend. Themed exhibitions dedicated to the most important historical periods for the city are also formed in the museum. The gallery also hosts exhibitions of contemporary artists and meet-and-greets with famous people of art. Copyright www.orangesmile.com
