Travel Guide to Konstanz, Germany

Konstanz is an ancient city located on the bank of the Rhine River. Over a thousand years ago the Romans founded here a camp that was named after Constantius Chlorus – the great Roman emperor. Today Konstanz is famous as a large tourist center rich in entertainments and signature places.
The most famous and interesting sight of the city is Uhldingen-Mühlhofen. This is a chain of wooden villages. Some of them have been built on piles, so the age of some villages reaches 2-3 thousands of years. Besides that there are many architectural sights on the territory of the city. All tourists are commended to make an excursion to an ancient Muenster Cathedral. Today only a crypt and a basilica remain of that church built in 9-10th centuries. Starting from 1435 the cathedral has been rebuilt and changed. During this renovation several towers and chapels were added to the building. Konzilgebaeude Cathedral is another interesting religious sight of the city. In the 19th century its facades were decorated with amazing carvings illustrating the most important events in the history of the city. Starting from 1970 the Cathedral becomes the place of conducting important events and congresses. St. Stephan Church is no less beautifull. It was built in the 15th century. The facades of the church are decorated with elegant frescos.
You should also visit the building of the Town Hall that is surrounded by a large garden. The most widely visited museums of Konstanz are Archeological Museum and Museum of National Arts. The first one will tell you about the amazing findings that have been discovered by archeologists on the territory of this city. The second museum will provide you with information about the lifestyle of the people of Konstanz. Wilde nature lovers will not lose the opportunity to attend the excursion to Boden Lake that is located near the town. The lake is located not far away from the city. That region is also famous by Rhine Waterfalls.
