This is a beautiful Italian town, the main symbol of which is the famous Torre di Pisa. However, besides this unique architectural building there are really many interesting places in this town - museums, theaters, galleries and historical monuments. Nevertheless, any excursion begins with a visit to the famous tower.

It was constructed in 1173; the tower’s height estimates 56 meters. The restoration of the complex has been completed recently. The tower’s foundation was strengthened securely, so, according to architects, it should stand at least three hundred years. Many legends are connected with the main symbol of the town. However, no one knows the answer to the main question – why the tower doesn’t fall. Modern architects agree that the tower of such design was destined to fall right from the very beginning. The fact it has survived till our days is a true miracle.

You will also find several historic religious buildings in this town. Cathedral Duomo is a wonderful example of the Romanesque style. This is a large building with a façade made of white marble. The construction of the cathedral took place in the 11th century. The pulpit of the cathedral was made by the famous Italian master Giovanni Pisano, and this is not the only item that decorates this cathedral. The Baptistery built in the 12th century is an excellent example of Gothic architecture. As archaeologists keep working on the territory of the town, the local Archaeological Museum is one of the most frequently visited places. Even if you do not consider yourself a gourmet, you still should visit one of the restaurants of Pisa. Food here is unique and unrepeatable, and you will not find similar dishes in any other city of Italy.

The historical cemetery of Campo Santo founded in the 13th century today is among the most significant architectural monuments of Pisa. Up to the 18th century, only the wealthiest and most high-ranking citizens could be buried in this place. Today, here you can find tombs of many prominent military figures, politicians and artists. The old cemetery has also preserved three ancient chapels, each one has an unusual historical atmosphere.

One of the most interesting places for walks is the historic quarter of Borgo Stretto. It attracts travelers with its unique medieval-style buildings and several picturesque miniature squares. One of the most beautiful architectural objects of the city is Palazzo della Carovana built in the 16th century. Originally the palace belonged to the Knights of the Order of St. Stephen. The palace houses one of the universities of Pisa. In days free from lectures tourists can enroll on guided tours of the historic building.

An equally interesting cultural facility is Opera del Duomo Museum. It occupies a unique 12th-century building, which formerly housed a theological seminary. Many unique artworks brought from Pisa Cathedral and numerous luxurious city palaces are collected inside the historic building. Besides works of art, the museum can offer collections of ancient national costumes, antique frescoes, and sculptures. The age of some exhibits is more than 500 years.

In Pisa, there is a wonderful Botanical Garden, which is another historical symbol of the city. Founded in the 16th century by one of the local researchers, today the botanical garden is one of the oldest not only in Italy but also in the world. By the end of the 16th century, a specialized botanical university was established here.
