The remains of the ancient Venetian fort, Agios Georgios are preserved on the island. It is located not far from the Lefkada canal. The exact date of construction of this fortification is unknown, although the first mention of it dates back to 1125. Already at the end of the 12th century, the fortress was conquered by the Franks, in whose possession it remained until 1797.
