Lefkada is a Greek island in Ionic Sea. It is known for its white rocks that gave the name to this place (Lefkada means white). Sheer rocks are located only on the west coast of the island. On the east Lefkada is covered with various plants and trees, so numerous bays simply dive in greenery.

The main occupation of people on the island is growing olives, grape and sausage production. Here is also grown lentil that is considered the best one in Greece. Besides this Lefkada is known for manufacturing high quality fabric, beautiful embroidery and tender lace.
The beaches of the island are located on Ligya and Nikiana villages. Nidri is considered the largest center of tourism of Lefkada. Approximately two kilometers from this settlement deep into the island and you will see an amazingly beautiful waterfall.

Vasiliki settlement can conquer with Nidri in terms of popularity. It is located near a bay and is protected from winds. Vasiliki also has a wonderful sand beach. This place is ideal for surfing. Tourists can also make a boat ride from the settlement to a picturesque beach named Agiofili, or watch Safo Rock.

Among the sights of this place is the bridge that connects the island with the mainland. Near the bridge you will see ruins of the Saint Maura Fortress. Lefkada town is located approximately one kilometer away from the bridge. In this town you can visit churches of St. Dmitri, St. Minas, St. John of Anjou, and St. Spiridion. The church of Pantokrator has a graveyard, where visitors can see the tomb of Aristotelis Valaoritis, a famous Greek poet.

Tourists may also enjoy attending Museum of Archeology, Museum of Phonographs, Museum of Ethnography, Post-Byzantine Art Picture Gallery, Faneromeni Monastery and more. Finally, Kalligoni village features the fragments of Cyclopean walls and ruins of a small theater.
