Preparing your trip to Attica Region: advices & hints - things to do and to obey

4. The climate in Greece is different, but particularly in Attica it is Mediterranean, so it is warm. In the summer season, which lasts from May to the end of October, there is almost no rain here. Winter is rainy, but exactly in winter, you can also have a great and relaxing holiday in this region.
6. While getting ready for your journey, especially in summer, bring with you light clothing designed for the active sun and heat. Of course, just to be on the safe side, it is worth putting at least one jacket or a windbreaker into your suitcase, but it is highly likely that you will not need them. 9. Do not forget to check the correctness of bills at restaurants and taximeters. If you order a car, before getting into it, reconfirm the cost of the trip. Do not carry around important documents or substantial sums of money if you do not need them. Do not leave the balcony door open in your hotel room. We strongly recommend keeping your valuables not in the room, but in the hotel’s safe deposit box.
10. Just in case, always take your insurance policy number with you and ensure that you have the telephone numbers of various emergency services.
11. Although Greece is a secular state and a part of Europe, it is better to go accompanied to the outlying regions of the country, first of all, it regards women.
12. The pace of life is specific here. For example, in the daytime, the population at large breaks off work for siesta, neither the state institutions nor shops work at this time as well. As a rule, this does not happen in the large cities, such as Athens, but still, if you want to do some shopping, in order not to waste time, visit the stores in the morning. In the summer season, most shops are open until late at night.
13. In order not to provoke a conflict with the local population, it is better not to bring up such topics as politics or religion.
14. Tipping at restaurants is a very good idea and extremely welcome, this is a kind of gratitude for the service received. Usually, the tip amount is 10% of the bill. It is customary to tip the hotel maids and taxi drivers as well.
15. Attica and entire Greece are a paradise for smokers, here you can smoke almost everywhere, with the exception of special halls in restaurants.
16. The peculiarity of the geographical names of the region can be puzzling since the same street names can be found in the different parts of one and the same city. Therefore, when you ask for the address, be sure to check the district.
17. The public transport is well developed in Athens; the city is big, so it is not always convenient to travel on foot there. It is possible to buy an entire ticket for the bus, tramway, and metro; you can choose between options of 90 minutes, one day or one week. The tickets are sold at the newsstands, ticket-issue machines or special stalls of the transportation service.
18. For fans of cultural entertainment, it is a good thing to know that sometimes the entrance to the museums and historical sites is free. There are special websites on the Internet providing an opportunity to check the schedule of such free visits.
19. In general, the working hours of any institution are conditionally determined, it is possible to say for sure that there is a siesta everywhere and traditionally Sunday is a day off. Many shops, museums, and even restaurants are closed on Sunday. This is especially apparent outside Athens. If you spend your vacation somewhere in a small town or put off on a long excursion, be prepared for this.
20. Bear in mind that you cannot shoot photos of everything anywhere you want. Usually, there are special signs around the objects, which are prohibited to be photographed.
