The most popular beach of Patmos is Grigos. The sea in this area is always calm, so the conditions are ideal for scuba diving. Other two popular beaches, Kambos and Diakofti, are located nearby. The church is considered sacred and is included in the list of the world’s unique religious monuments. The monastic library, which exhibits over three thousand books, in another place worth visiting. One-third of all the books are manuscripts, many of which exist in a single copy only. The terrace of the library features a great view of the island and the coast.
Besides interesting sights Patmos is famous for its magnificent nature. Spacious beaches are followed by rocky cliffs and groves; here you can always enjoy the silence, which is violated only by birds singing. An amazing cultural institution is an ethnographic museum called the "House of Simandiris". This private museum is located in the capital of the island, the city of Chora. It has been managed by the Simandiris family for several years. The museum is housed in a very beautiful ancient building where it was possible to preserve the old decoration as much as possible. Among its exhibits are unique ones, whose age is more than 500 years. Visitors to the museum can admire old furniture collections; see unique icons of the 14th-15th centuries, beautiful old utensils and silverware, as well as unique works of art by local masters. The very mansion where the museum is housed was built in 1625 and is of great architectural value.
Walks on Kasteli Hill located in the immediate vicinity of Chora are very popular among fans of historical sites. This hill is the location of important archaeological zones. Here researchers discovered the ruins of an ancient acropolis and many other unique ancient artifacts. Some of them date back to the Bronze Age, many artifacts discovered here are currently stored in the Archaeological Museum. The top of the hill is interesting not only for its historic sights - it offers a chic panoramic view of the island.
Get a lot of impressions from a tour of the miniature town of Grikos, which has managed to preserve its national charm after hundreds of years.
