Travel Guide to Kos, Greece

Kos is a beautiful town and a magnificent beach resort that has gained popularity among European and American travellers within just several decades. Old buildings were fully destroyed during the earthquake in 1933. After this the town was rebuilt simply from ashes. Today this is a wonderful corner of nature rich in spacious parks and valleys, palm groves and fairytale-like flowerbeds. The town and its suburbs are quite rich in various architectural places of interest, visiting which should be definitely included into an observation program of any traveller.
The castle of loannite Knights built in the 15th century is one of those facilities. Stones and marble left from the houses destroyed by the earthquake were used during the building of the fort. Palm Avenue is one more interesting place recommended for visiting. Here you will see a huge sycamore. According to one of the theories, the tree was planted by Hippocrates. Under the shadow of this powerful tree he taught his students medicine. The central part of the town is called Elevterias. Here is located an Archeological Museum that is usual for the majority of old Greek towns. We should mention that archeological excavations don’t stop here ever nowadays, so the collection of the museum constantly grows. The ancient Asclepius Hospital is the main sight of this city. Many years ago the visitors of this hospital were cured by healing water. Today the only things remained are the fragments of the basement and several columns.
Adventure connoisseurs should visit neighboring resorts. Each one of them is entertaining and has its special aura. Kardamena town is famous for its nightclubs and bars. Here is also located a cozy village, which cost is considered an ideal place for fishing. Lambi town features wide choice of restaurants, so this place can be recommended by connoisseurs.
