In December, the weather becomes stable; the rainy and windy weather stops. The air temperature gradually drops, however the weather becomes more comfortable. In Madrid, the average daytime temperature is 9°C, and at night the temperature drops to 2°C. On the southern coast, the average daily temperature is about 14°C. January is the coldest month in the country. In the central regions, frosts and strong cold winds are often observed. February is the most volatile weather in the year. The sunny weather gives way to cold and rainy days, and it keeps snowing in the northern regions. From the first day of March, the air temperature in all regions of Spain begins to increase gradually. In Madrid, the temperature rises to 15°C, though at night it is cool enough (about 5°C). In April, the sky becomes clear and the air temperature approaches the most comfortable. At the resorts in May, the air warms up to 22°C.
