Sightseeing in Paguera - what to see. Complete travel guide

Some call this city a Little Germany because there are always so many German tourists in Paguera. First urban settlements started appearing here in the beginning of the 20th century. Rich Spaniards built many houses here. They were attracted by wonderful nature and peaceful atmosphere. Originally there was a small settlement on the site of the modern city. The inhabitants of this settlement were mostly occupied in the extraction of resin from numerous pine trees that were growing in this region. Later the settlement was turned into a military fortification, and then it started developing as a tourist center.
The resort will be certainly loved by people who enjoy beach rest. Paguera is also well-equipped for various sports activities. The most popular beaches are Playa Tora, Playa Palmira and Playa La Romana. They are located very close to each other, so tourists can reach them on foot. During your walk to a beach you will find many restaurants of different types. Here are located authentic English pubs, restaurants with Mexican food, as well as several Japanese restaurants and bars. The selection of shops here is no less rich. You are welcome to visit modern shopping centers, in which you can walk for hours, or move your feet to small souvenir shops and open marketplaces.
Besides relaxing on beaches the resort offers large variety of hiking trails, because there are so many beautiful places here. As a rule, they all are located in remote parts of the resort.

It is also worth telling a few words about the hotels of Paguera. The most popular is the Beverly Playa, which is located close to the center. It is perfect for those tourists, who want to attend numerous excursions and always stay in the center of all important events. On the territory of the hotel there’s a large beach and a pool. Tora Hotel is located in a quiet area. Here you will find several restaurants and shops, and it takes no more than 15 minutes to get to the nearest beach. Copyright
Not far from the city center is a beautiful cathedral built the best traditions of the Gothic style and complemented by unique elements of the Mudejar style typical for Spain. At first glance, it is hard to realize that this cathedral was built just a few years ago, as it looks like an original ancient structure. In the daytime the cathedral operates as a museum: for a small fee, everyone can appreciate its unique interior decoration recreating the style of the past. In the evenings, church services are often held in the cathedral.
An outstanding historic landmark of national importance is Bellver Castle located in the immediate vicinity of the resort. It is the only round castle in Spain. The fortress built in the 14th century was inspired by the ancient Jewish Herodium. The historical castle stands on a hill, whose height is 140 meters, so it is perfectly visible from many parts of the island. For many years the fortress has been used for various cultural events, and part of the historic building is occupied by the museum.
In the vicinity of Paguera is the charming village of Cala Fornells, which is sure to surprise fans of hiking and historic sites. To climb the hill where the village is located you need to overcome a steep staircase that begins on the resort's main beach. The main feature of the old village is luxurious villas, which once belonged to the wealthiest islanders. Some areas of the village offer amazing views of the bay.
Guests of the resort are offered very interesting sea excursions, and one of the most popular ones is a trip to the island of Dragorera. Its main attraction is two old lighthouses, one of which stands on top of a cliff that rises to 300 meters. The miniature islet is not devoid of natural sights: its territory is inhabited by endemic lizard species and rare species of birds. A few years ago a small museum was opened on the island, which currently acquaints visitors with its fascinating history and main features. Vacationers have a wide choice of hiking and cycling routes around Paguera.

Sightseeing in Spain: things to see

The Royal Palace remains the main landmark of Madrid. Nowadays, the palace is used to host most important meetings and official ceremonies. An ancient Moorish castle stood on the site of the modern Royal Palace until 1755. In the middle of the 18th century the castle lost its strategic importance, and as it was built in a very beautiful place it was decided to demolish it and build a luxury palace instead. Currently, this magnificent building has more than 2,000 rooms halls that hold precious collections of old items - chandeliers, clocks, furniture, musical instruments, weapons and artworks. … Open
