Georgia State Capitol, Atlanta

» The Georgia State Capitol was built on the site of the city hall in 1889. The exterior of the Capitol building in Atlanta is very similar to the Capitol in Washington.
»  The government residence was equipped with elevators, water supply system, gas, which was an ultramodern innovation for that time. The Capitol building used to be the tallest in Atlanta – 83 meters. The golden dome is decorated with a small Statue of Liberty.
»  The fourth floor of the residence has a museum of the history of the state and the city, which displays the items that belonged to Indian tribes: clothes, weapons, jewelry. There are several art galleries here as well.
»  A nearby square has a monument to President Jimmy Carter, who lived in Atlanta. Since 1973, the Capitol building has been the United States’ historic monument.

Georgia Dome, Atlanta

» The Georgia Dome stadium was a modern indoor arena built in 1992. It cost 214 million dollars. Its capacity was 74,228 fans.
»  During the 1996 Olympics, the arena hosted basketball and handball games, as well as rhythmic gymnastics competitions.
»  During the stadium’s operation, 1,400 different events took place here and 37 million people visited it.
»  But in November 2017, the stadium was destroyed by an explosion (peaceful).
»  It happened because a new stadium, Mercedes-Benz, was built nearby. It was covered with a special protection, so that it would not get damaged by the explosion.
»  The free area is planned to be used for a hotel, a park, and a parking lot.

SunTrust Plaza, Atlanta

» SunTrust Plaza is a skyscraper designed for office and business activities. It is over 260 meters tall.
»  The construction of the building lasted three years. It was commissioned in 1992.
»  At that time, the real estate market was in decline. To avoid bankruptcy, the owner had to sell half of the building to a banking company.
»  New owners placed their headquarters here and renamed the building SunTrust Plaza.
»  The official life of the city flows in this 60-story building (which is 275 meters with the antenna) with an area of over 130,000 square meters.
»  SantTrust Plaza is part of the Peachtree Center complex that includes similar structures, hotels, and shopping malls.
»  According to the architect’s design, the skyscraper stands on a square base. The building is postmodern in style. The top of the structure resembles a crown.
»  There’s sort of an exhibition of works of art, valuable sculptures, and furniture organized on two floors.
»  Predatory peregrine falcons settled on the 50th-floor balcony. They are monitored through mobile devices.
»  In March 2008, a tornado-like atmospheric whirlwind smashed out the windows.

Tabernacle, Atlanta

» The Tabernacle is one of Atlanta’s landmarks often visited by tourists. It is considered an architectural monument.
»  The entertainment facility is unique because of its location – it’s situated inside an old church. The former Baptist church is located near Centennial Olympic Park. Although it almost can’t be seen from the street, it is worth visiting.
»  The interior of the tabernacle was reconstructed. The architectural structure was built in 1911. The building with an amphitheater of comfortable seats has three levels with a view of the stage.
»  The acoustics of the hall together with live sound attract spectators. The fan zone is a fairly spacious room. Besides, there are lots of additional halls inside.
»  There are game areas for billiard players. You can visit the bar or spend time in private in a separate room. The schedule of various events and concerts is designed for twelve months.
»  The bottom floor has a place where small performances are played. There’s a stage, an art gallery, a music studio, and a kitchen. The Tabernacle resembles a tent.

191 Peachtree Tower, Atlanta

Location on the map:
Facts: » The 50-story skyscraper tower is 235 meters high. The building is the fourth-tallest building in the city.
»  It’s located in the shopping area of Peachtree Street. It was built in the late 90s.
»  The exterior is faced with gray granite. Huge gray windows extend along the entire length of a wall. Sliding doors are a distinctive feature of the tower.
»  The office building was supposed to consist of 48 floors. But in the end, two more levels were added. Three years later, the construction itself began, and it was finished a year after.
»  The Peachtree Tower had been the most respectable skyscraper for almost 10 years.
»  In 2006, two largest organizations terminated the rental, and the building got empty. A financial company bought the skyscraper and placed its head office in the building.
