The history of Feodosia goes back over 25 centuries. It is one of the oldest towns in the world. Besides the unique nature, the main value of the enchanting Crimean town is historical monuments. The main features of the town are plenty of beautiful squares, near which you can see unique monuments of cultural heritage. The parks and squares of Feodosia will impress you with their well-groomed appearance and thoughtful design. The town was damaged significantly in wartime. Most of the historical sites of Feodosia were destroyed. Due to the locals’ effort, the part of the historical heritage was restored, so the sightseeing program offered to tourists can’t be called modest. Ancient mansions and villas, outstanding cult constructions and the ruins of old fortresses, symbolic monuments and museums  it is just impossible to explore all these sites in one day. In the surroundings of Feodosia, there are several beautiful medieval fortresses. The most famous of them is the Genoese Fortress Kafa. It was built in the 14th century. Originally, the fortress was a big architectural complex. It included several large palaces, administrative buildings, a bishop’s residence, and different outbuildings. By the 19th century, the fortress had lost its original strategic status and been almost destroyed. Only several medieval towers, some walls, old churches, and the bathhouse have survived to this day.

Some of the medieval defensive constructions are located right on the territory of the city. One of them is the Tower of St. Constantine. It was built in 1382 to protect the coastal zone from conquerors. In the late 15th century, the tower was conquered by Ottoman conquerors and partially rebuilt. The historical value of the construction was recognized at the beginning of the 20th century. It was reconstructed completely at that time.

Another beautiful architectural monument is Cottage Stamboli. It was built for the local wealthy merchant in 1914. As many other luxurious constructions, the cottage was nationalized after the Revolution of 1917. Then, it served as a sanatorium. In wartime, the hospital that had been open for many years was founded here. In the middle of the 20th century, the historic building served as a restaurant. There is the Museum of Underwater Archeology opened in 2013.

The must-see is the Local History Museum of Feodosia. Its collection started being formed at the beginning of the 19th century. In 1811, the Museum of Antiques was opened in the city. Its exhibits have become a core of the collection of the future local history museum. Ivan Konstantinovich Aivazovsky contributed much to the museum development. The first separate building was built at his expense. Consequently, the museum has changed its location several times, as its collection has been rapidly broadened. Today, it occupies the beautiful estate built in the period between the 19th and 20th centuries. The museum houses the collection of interesting archeological artifacts that have been found when the surroundings of Feodosia were explored.
