Leiria is a city in Portugal that is known as the center of the same named municipality. The town is located 119 kilometers north from Lisbon, the capital of the country. The population of the city estimates 42.8 thousands of people.
Industries and manufacturing are almost not developed in the town. Some small factories that operate in the region are located in Leiria’s suburbs, in so called industrial zones. Here is blooming tourist industry as the beaches of Atlantic Ocean are always crowded with people.
The town is truly beautiful. Since old times visitors have come to this place to see a beautiful castle (castello). There is also a large and modern stadium in the town. It can sit 25,000 people, so the stadium hosts football matches and competitions in track and field athletics. There is a swimming pool near the stadium. The swimming pool’s track is 25 meters long. It is also equipped with a springboard and towers for high-board diving competitions.
This town is crossed by a river that divides it into two parts. In the city there are several fountains. One of them, which is located on the central part of the town, is equipped with son et lumière.
The central street of the town is named Marques de Pombal. Near the street is located a bus terminal, from which you can easily reach all main cities of Spain (Madrid, Barcelona) and Paris. The railway station is located in the town’s suburb. There are many cafes, shops, and banks in Leiria. The majority of them are the representatives of large European chain stores like Ulmar, Liddle, Pinko, Zara, Intermesh and many more.
The town is truly amazing at night, when it shines with numerous lights. The castle on the mountain is especially fascinating as it shines with a grey light under the rays of the artificial light.
On weekends you can visit a market that works until 1 p.m. It is located not far away from the swimming pool.
