2. The historic district is distinguished by numbered streets. Even streets stretch from north to south, and odd streets from west to east, respectively, so it is quite easy to navigate the area.
3. Travelers who expect to rent a car for a vacation should take into account that some streets may be blocked for transport on weekends. The traffic on some pedestrian streets is banned permanently.
4. For most local museums and other cultural centers, Monday is a day off. On Sundays, some museums operate on a reduced schedule, until 2:00-3:00 pm.
5. The city's largest tourist centers are located in Palacio de Gobierno and the Teatro Peón Contreras. Here you can learn more about upcoming cultural events, get free city maps and booklets with descriptions of attractions. Copyright www.orangesmile.com

12. Drivers should take into account that signs familiar to many are not common in the city. In no-parking zones, borders are painted yellow, and there are no additional signs.
13. Most local restaurants offer affordable prices. Thrifty tourists will like small family cafes and bakeries where prices are at the lowest level.
14. Bazar de Artesanias opens in one of the city parks every Sunday. The fair would be ideal to choose souvenirs, as the best local artisans sell their products here.
15. Most foreign tourists visit Merida in late February-early March, during the Carnival. It is recommended to book hotel rooms for this period well in advance.

Chicxulub Crater

From the series “Largest Meteorite Craters on Earth”
The structure has been found relatively recently, in 1987, during one of the geophysical expeditions arranged to search for oil deposits. As a result, the symmetrical arch was discovered by researchers at the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico. Then scientists moved to land. It was decided to name a discovered crater after the nearby settlement of Chicxulub. This name literally translates from Mayan as a demon of ticks. Since discovery, large-scale studies of the crater do not stop even for a moment. The investigation made it possible to clarify the theory of the Cretaceous-Paleogene crisis, which killed the dinosaurs and a number of the few and most vulnerable species of animals and plants. … Read further
