In Padova you can find the oldest botanic garden of the world. It was set up in 1545. The garden was a special place for medicinal herbs production that was used at the faculty of the medical university. It was under the umbrella and locked with a high forbidding fence.
At the end of the 17th century there were built new greenhouses and other necessary buildings. On the cusp of 17-18th centuries, the botanic garden was drastically renovated. Nice fountains and several sculptural compositions in the antique style are decorating the garden too. This botanic garden occupies an area of 22 000 square meters. Their visitors can see the unique old trees and rare plants from the whole world.
The most interesting plants of Europe are kew trees and magnolias. As a long time ago, today in the garden medical herbs are also produced. It is also under the control of the university, that’s why you can see students there. On the territory, you can see about 6 000 types of plants. The oldest Mediterranean palm was planted there in 1585. The territory of the garden was divided into 5 thematic zones. Every zone represents different countries. The garden is well equipped for vacation, there you can find a lot of benches and arbours.
