Baltimore City Hall is a quite interesting building form the architectural point of view. Since 1875 it is used according to its intended purpose. The building combines elements of Renaissance and Baroque styles. In the second half of the 20th century, the future of the building was under a question. The local administration has to decide whether to reconstruct the whole building or to build a new one.
In 1974 they made up a decision to rebuild this historical city hall and modernize its rooms for administrative needs. For reconstruction were spent about 10 million American dollars. After the reconstruction, there was a city administration as well as the town court. Today a historical building is known as a place of several famous crimes. The last much-publicized crime was in April 1976.
Charles A. Hopkins stormed the temporary City Hall with a handgun and killed a member of the Baltimore City Council. Hopkins angered that his restaurant was being shut down under the court decision. He was found not guilty by reason of insanity. The old Baltimore City Hall has seen several unusual stories in its life. Nevertheless, a lot of travellers pay more attention to Hall’s architecture, not on history.
