Arcul de Triumf, Bucharest

» The Arcul de Triumf was officially opened on October 16, 1922. However, the arch had been constructed until the fall of 1936.
»  The Arcul de Triumf became the symbol of national unity of the Romanian people.
»  The arch from a ledge to a pediment is 27 m high. The foundation of the arch is over 300 m2. The span is 10 m wide and 17 m high.
»  On the arch, you can see engraved texts of great Romanian historian Nicolae Iorga.
»  Every year on December 1, a parade in honor of the Unity Day is held at the foot of the arch.

CEC Palace, Bucharest

» The CEC Palace is one of the most beautiful buildings in Bucharest. It was built in 1885 as the headquarter of the oldest bank in Romania.
»  106 years later, it was decided to sell the palace to the City Municipality because it was no longer suitable for providing modern banking services. The City Municipality was going to use the building as a museum.
»  Despite the fact that the bank does not provide its services, it is still renting the building and using it as a headquarter and offices, as there is no appropriate replacement.
»  In 2009, the sixtieth birthday of Princess Margarita of Romania was celebrated in the Palace.
»  The building is designed in an eclectic style. The Palace is crowned by a beautiful glass and metal dome. The building entrance is decorated with an arch supported by two pairs of columns.

» The Cotroceni Palace is located in Bucharest and serves as the residence of the Romanian President. Besides, there is a museum.
»  The Controceni Palace is built in a Neo-Renaissance style. The palace is decorated with white columns with stucco. There are wide lodges with curvy rails, small balconies at different levels of the building, and magnificent and luxurious rooms.
»  The Norwegian Hall, the library, the Queen’s room, the Eastern Hall, and some other rooms have survived to nowadays in their original form.

House of the Free Press, Bucharest

»  The building that is 104 m high had been the highest construction in Romania until 2007.
»  Originally, it was the place where almost all printing machines of Romania were kept. There are also reading rooms. Today, it fulfills the same functions. Additionally, there is the Bucharest Stock Exchange in the south wing.
»  In the building, there is the impressive archive of the Romanian press.
»  There is also a printing house and a photo agency in the same building.

Museum of the Romanian Peasant, Bucharest

» The Museum of the Romanian Peasant is one of the famous European museums of folk arts. It was rewarded many times for its activity. In 1996, it received the European Museum of the Year Award.
»  It was founded in 1906. Nowadays, the museum houses a huge collection of national costumes, icons, ceramics, and other Romanian peasant household items.
»  This museum is so cute and comfortable and has an amazing and inimitable homely atmosphere.
»  The museum is located in a unique building that has been built for 29 years. Fortunately, no shell hit the construction during the Second World War, which gave the government a sense of relief.
»  The architectural style of the museum features traditional Romanian elements.

Palace of the Parliament, Bucharest

» The Palace of the Parliament was built at the time of the Socialist Republic of Romania. It is one of the most famous architectural monument in Bucharest.
»  The Palace is considered as the biggest civil and administrative building in the world and the largest parliament building.
»  The total area of the Palace is 270x240 m. The building is 86 m high. The underground part of the Palace is at a depth of 92 m.
»  In the building, there are 1 100 rooms on 12 floors.
»  It consists of 8 underground levels, 4 of which have been already finished and used. 4 floors are being finalized.
»  During the construction of the Palace, there was a need for Romanian marble, due to which one-fifth of the historic center of the city was dismantled. At one time, this triggered protests because a lot of churches were demolished.

Romanian Athenaeum, Bucharest

» The Romanian Athenaeum is one of the most beautiful buildings in Bucharest. It is the home of the Romanian Philharmonic with a famous hall and incomparable acoustics.
»  The building was built by famous French architect Albert Galleron. He also designed the building of the National Bank of Romania.
»  The Athenaeum resembles a Greek temple. The high dome and columns are Doric. There is an incredibly beautiful lobby where the ceiling is decorated with inimitable frescoes and leaves covered with pure gold.
»  If you go up the spiral stairs, you will reach elegant balconies decorated with curved trellis.
»  The dome of the building is supported by beautiful columns of pink marble. They are linked with sophisticated arches. On the walls, there are copper lanterns that resemble gems with their shape.

Romanian Patriarchal Cathedral, Bucharest

» The Romanian Orthodox Patriarchal Cathedral was founded in Bucharest in the 17th century upon the order of the ruler of Wallachia, Constantin Șerban.
»  The cathedral, the Patriarchal Palace, and the Patriarchal Residence are an architectural complex and the heart of Orthodox Romania.
»  The cathedral was built when the south of Romania, Wallachia, was flourished and a unique Brancovenesc (Wallachian Rennaisance) style originated here.
»  The name of an architect who designed the Patriarchal Cathedral is still not known. The cathedral was restored many times. It has not survived to nowadays in its original form.
»  In 1925, the Romanian Orthodox Church received a Patriarchal status, so the cathedral became the main Orthodox temple in Romania.

The National Museum of Art, Bucharest

» The National Museum of Art is the biggest art museum in Romania.
»  It is located in the former royal palace. The collection of the museum includes almost 60 000 pieces of Romanian and foreign art, including 3 000 pieces of European art.
»  The Romanian collection tells about the history of national arts and contains different exhibits from icons, old paintings, and boyars’ portraits to items of the middle of the 20th century.
»  The European collection includes about 3 000 paintings, sculptures, and graphic works.
»  The museum also houses the rich collection of pieces of applied arts, old furniture, earthenware, tapestries, and carpets.
