A landmark structure for the city is the Great Mosque of Mahmud. It was built in 1910 by order of the king, and is considered one of the most beautiful mosques in the country. In the immediate vicinity of the city, is the fortress of Hercules. Despite its name, it has nothing to do with ancient culture. This fortress was built in the late 13th century. Since its inception, it belonged to Genoese merchants, and in the early 15th century was captured by late Sultan Mehmed I. In the 16th century, it came to neglect, and to date it has been preserved only partially. During a tour, tourists can not only admire the ruins of the fortress, but also watch the birds that chose these picturesque places as their home.

The dry-cargo ship has an outstanding story of the building. It was built in 1941 and was named Saxon Star 2. This dry cargo ship was built at the Harland & Wolff Ltd shipyard, where the Titanic was built. During the war, this cargo was used for transportation of wounded soldiers. From 1946 until 1958 it was used as a cargo shipping. In 1959 the cargo ship was sold to the Greece company and renamed in "Evangelia".
