The beautiful Dolmabahce Palace is located in the Besiktas district of Istanbul. It is often called the most "non-Turkish" in the country. A chic Palace with elements in the Rococo style began to be built on the banks of the Bosporus in 1843. Its construction began by order of Sultan Abdulmejid I. The construction of the palace was completed in 1856. It has been the main residence of the sultans since its foundation. The palace complex impresses with its incredible scale. Its area is 250,000 square meters.

Dolmabahce Palace, Turkey You can see many more historical buildings on the territory of the complex in addition to the palace itself. A preserved old stable, poultry yard, mill, and pastry shop are among them. One of the most unusual structures on the territory of the complex is the clock tower. It was built in 1895. Its height is 27 meters. The clock on the tower continues to work for more than a hundred years since its installation. Dolmabahce Mosque is also an important part of the complex. It also has rich exterior decoration.

The variety of landscape compositions and sculptures formed on the territory of the palace complex deserve special attention. 12 gates serve as the entrance to the palace grounds. The Treasure Gate is considered the main one among them. A significant part of the palace's premises is accessible to the public today. But fans of excursions should remember that no more than 3,000 people can visit the Sultan's residence daily. The ticket office is located right on the palace grounds. It will be better to go for tickets as early as possible during the height of the tourist season. Next - Winter Palace

Top destination around Dolmabahce Palace - Istanbul

Residents of Istanbul have several distinct national characteristics. In Istanbul, as well as in any city in the country, the natives have great respect for religious customs and traditions. Women wear closed clothes, the same applies to visitors – people in open clothing may be denied to enter many mosques and public institutions.
Istanbul residents value their homes, so they always remove their shoes when they enter a house. This rule applies to mosques, which are also considered the house for everyone. Food is one of the most important aspects of life. The Turks can talk and argue on this topic endlessly. But when it comes to alcoholic beverages, the locals are more than careful - alcohol is banned by their religion. Tourists should also not walk on the streets of the city with a bottle of beer in their hands as this can offend residents and cause a lot of discontent.

Colorful markets are a striking national feature of Istanbul. People come here not only for shopping, but also for socializing. Bargaining is normal and even recommended in local shops and bazaars. As a rule, it helps reducing the item’s price by 2 - 3 times. Each year residents of Istanbul celebrate numerous national holidays, each of which has interesting customs and traditions.
