Asam Church, Germany

From series “Rococo Architecture – Famous Monuments”
Year: 1746.

St. John's Church is located in Munich. It is also known to many tourists by the unofficial name Asam. Its construction lasted 13 years. It was fully completed in 1746. The beautiful church is one of the most beautiful Rococo monuments in the city today. Initially, this church was built as a private one. It was built by talented local architects – the Azam brothers. They owned several houses near the church. They built a religious monument so that one of the brothers could admire its altar from the window of his house.

Asam Church, Germany A series of protests followed in the circles of residents after the construction of the church. Citizens demanded to make the new church public. The founders of the church had to make concessions to locals. Their creation became public domain a few years after its foundation. The old church is distinguished not only by its spectacular appearance but also by its luxurious interior decoration. Many of its elements have been preserved in their original form.

Visitors to the church can admire the elaborate wall paintings, stucco work, and beautiful sculptures today. The main decoration of the church is a two-level altar. The most unusual element of the church's design is the carved cornice It is formed in such a way that it seems to float freely in the air. The Asam Church is quite small despite all of its unique features. Its main hall is 22 meters long and only 8 meters wide. But the Asam Church remains one of the most beautiful churches in Germany for several hundred years. Next - Branicki Palace

Top destination around Asam Church - Munich

The first thing that comes to mind on the mention of “Munich” is, of course, beer. The number of breweries here is simply over the top. If you do not pay a visit to the Hofbrauhaus in Munchen, you may think that the capital of Bavaria has not opened its real “soul”. The brewery is attractive not only as a place where you can taste beer, but also as a building with fascinating architecture and history. Built in the year 1589, the building served as a brewery of the royal household. It was however rebuilt at the end of the 19th century. The beer hall is worth a visit at least due to the prevailing atmosphere here. Also noteworthy is the fact that many famous personalities visited this place.

“Endless staircase” – this is the name of one of the most interesting sculptures in the city. This intriguing example of modern art is an excellent place for taking photographs. Feldherrnhalle (the Hall of Bavarian Generals) – the main competitor of the “Victory Gate” – is definitely worth visiting, and many like to start their tour of the city with this building. It is one of the symbols of the capital of Bavaria. Just like the company BMW, its headquarters is located right here. The headquarters’ building is interesting both from an architectural point of view, and also as a museum where you can learn everything about the history of the concern.
