Crouching Tiger and Turtle, Germany

From series “Furious Footways Around the World That Make You Dizzy”
Year: 2011. Lenght: 220 meters. Height: 13 meters.

Not always a ladder has an exact practical purpose. An excellent example is an original attraction, which can be seen in Duisburg. "Tiger and Turtle" staircase resembles a roller coaster with its outlines, but visitors of the attraction are offered not to pass, but to take a difficult route. An unusual installation can also be seen as a symbolic monument. The main material used for its construction is zinc, and it has been decided to build an attraction in the place where zinc mining was previously conducted.

Crouching Tiger and Turtle, Germany The authors of the project of an unusual staircase are Heike Mutter and Ulrich Genth. They managed to combine in one structure two functions at once: to make an excellent viewing platform and an unusual attraction. Many tourists prefer to stroll through the stairs in the evening, when it is decorated with spectacular artistic illumination. The design is quite of impressive scale. Its height reaches 13 meters. From the highest point of the staircase opens a wonderful panoramic view of the city.

The length of the staircase is 220 meters. It is open day and night. Admission is free. The original attraction in Duisburg was opened in 2011 and became instantly known worldwide and popular with lovers of unusual entertainments. 'Tiger and Turtle' staircase is located in the picturesque Angerpark. One of the most important secrets of the ladder is the traditional roller coaster dead loop, which is much easier to pass through than it might seem at first glance. Next - Ladder Abaneri

Top destination around Crouching Tiger and Turtle - Duisburg

Residents of Duisburg are “people of the Rhine River”, and their national character is slightly different from the rest of Germany. However, there are still some similarities between residents of Duisburg and “typical” Germans. For example, they are also always ready to help, patient, and somewhat reserved. At the same time, they do not follow the rules as strict as, for example, in Magdeburg, Rostock, or Kiel. Duisburg residents are also not as loud as residents of Bavaria. They think first, but if they genuinely like something they prefer action over thinking.

Merry and trouble-free, lively and friendly – this is how foreigners usually describe local people. Duisburg natives are ready to talk on every theme. It is hard to define themes that are taboo in the region. Local people are liberal and tolerant, but they are ready to stand for their beliefs and argue until the end. Without a doubt, family is the main treasure in the life of any local. Here they are driven by the collectivist principles that do not coincide with the German individualism. Residents of Duisburg prefer relaxed style in clothes. They will never put on a suit in order to take a stroll in the city or go to work. Smart casual is a widely accepted office style.
