Year: 1942. Height: 850 meters.
On the Hawaiian island of Oahu is the famous Haiku staircase, which many tourists know under the unofficial name 'Stairway to Heaven'. The staircase was built in 1942 during the construction work on cable laying. In the first half of the 20th century, on the island of Oahu there was a large US naval base. Originally, the staircase was completely wooden. And already in 1950 it was replaced by a metal one.
Padded along the ridge, the staircase has 3992 steps, the height difference between its first and last step is 850 meters. The last major repair of the pedestrian route took place in 2003. About 875 thousand US dollars was spent on it. The Haiku Ladder is considered a rather difficult pedestrian route, its initial section is still wooden. On some sections of the road there are no fences, and other sites are quite steep and can become a serious test of physical endurance.
The only thing that can make you forget about the danger is a fabulous beauty of the surrounding landscapes. As noted earlier, the pedestrian route was laid along the top of the ridge. It would be difficult to find a more suitable place on the island for admiring its panorama. Tourists who decide to visit the amazing attraction on the island of Oahu, should consider that the staircase is unavailable for open access. Walking along the route is possible only as part of a tour and only accompanied by a guide.
