Start your observation of the city from visiting Vrijthof Square, which is the location of two bright architectural constructions - Basilica of Sint Servaas and Yanskerk Church. These beautiful historic buildings have witnessed many important events and do not cease to amaze visitors with their grandeur and beauty. The church of Onze Lieve Vrouwebasiliek is a no less beautiful religious monument. By the way, this is the oldest building in the city. Originally a pagan sanctuary was located on the site of the church. The construction of the first church on its original site was completed in 1380. The beautiful building in the Romanesque style seems to be bleak and harsh, but its halls are soaked in a wonderful atmosphere of peace.

Sint Servaasbrug bridge is a perfect place for walking. It offers unforgettable panoramic views of the city. The bridge is located near the historic quarter of the city, where travellers can also see numerous interesting buildings and monuments. A walk in an underground maze remains one of the most interesting excursions in the city. The maze is located in the western part of the city. The total length of the maze is approximately 10 kilometers. Underground shelters were built by local residents. For many times the shelters saved people during the periods of military conflicts. According to archaeologists, a part of the underground labyrinths was constructed during the Roman Empire times. In any case, visiting this important historical site will be of a great interest for every traveler.
The City Hall, the construction of which took place in the middle of the 17th century, is a wonderful place of interest and a great example of the Baroque style. Near the City Hall are located numerous mansions and historic buildings that have been built on different times and, thus, feature various architectural styles. Among the cultural institutions of the city we should definitely mention Bonnefantenmuseum. Nowadays this is an art museum located in a beautiful modern building. Earlier its exposition was located in an old monastery, but in 1995 the museum was completely moved to new premises. The building itself features amazing Art Nouveau style. This is also a wonderful place that is considered an important excursion object.
