Den Bosch is the most beautiful town and the capital of North Brabant province in the southern part of the Netherlands. The town was founded in the end of the 12th century between the mouths of two small rivers Aa and Dommel on the basis of former hunting holdings of Brabant Duke. The name of the town comes from this fact as it can be translated as “the Duke’s Wood”.

There are not so many places of interest in Den Bosch, but this town is famous for fantastic pictures of Hieronimus Van Aeken (known by his pseudonym Bosch) that are exhibited in one of the local museums. There is also a beautiful St John Cathedral, which inner decorations and drafts of stained-glass windows were created by Bosch. The architecture of St. John Cathedral represents gothic style. Here you will find spear-shaped gothic bas-reliefs, arcs, windows and unusual details of outside décor – figures that hold the cathedral’s peak. This church is the most beautiful one in the Netherlands and one of the reasons for this is long building. Started in XIV, the building process ended only a hundred years later. While walking on the streets of old town, you will see museums exhibiting works of Van Gogh and other Holland artists, Ceramics Museum and the only museum in the Netherlands devoted to carnival. While working in the suburbs of Den Bosch, you will find ancient fort facilities, walls, and the town’s fosse.

Den Bosch is famous not only for paintings. In the city, there is a very interesting Museum of Ceramics. It collects ceramics from different eras, all of which were once produced in local factories. The City is nice not only for its cultural sights, but also for its ancient traditions. For more than 500 years, an interesting festival has been held every year in it, called the Festival of Fools. It is celebrated in the second half of February. On the day of the holiday, many interesting entertaining events take place on the streets of the city. On festive days, it is customary to have fun and make merry until late at night. To celebrate, all locals sew carnival costumes themselves, and tourists in the main square are offered very cute carnival masks to buy. It will be interesting for admirers of cultural events to visit Jerome Bosch's Art Center. It was named after the outstanding artist of the 15th century whose homeland was the city of Den-Bosch. In this cultural center, interesting events devoted to modern painting, the photo and design are regularly held.

On the main square near the railway station, one of the main symbols of the city, a fine fountain decorated with the figure of a golden dragon. This figure was established here in 1903 as a symbol of the once majestic and unapproachable city.

The most brisk place in the city is the market square. Many outstanding monuments of architecture are located next to it. There is also a beautiful building of the town hall, which was built on this place in the 16th century. The last major reconstruction of this building was in the late 17th century. Since then, it has stayed practically unchanged, and is a magnificent example of classical style. Near the square are concentrated buildings of different eras. In many of them, very interesting shops and restaurants are located today. There is also the well-known building of De Leouvenborg which was built in 1422. Currently, it houses a prestigious historic hotel.
