On the way to the Grand Harbour, make a stop and explore the Upper Barrakka Lift. The first lift on this site appeared more than a century ago, in 1905. In 1973, the lift was closed because of its poor condition. Only in 2012, it was finally replaced with a modern panoramic lift. The marvelous lift connects Upper Barrakka Gardens and the Lascaris Ditch, offering fabulous views of the city. The lift is 58 meters high and can carry up to 21 passengers. There is a fee for using the Upper Barrakka Lift (1 euro) if you are going up. Going down is free. However, visitors with ferry tickets don’t need to pay anything – it is enough to show the ticket at the lift entrance.
