Do you want to find out, where the legendary Calypso kept the not less legendary Odysseus a prisoner, hoping to win his heart? Then you should look for a place the local call Calypso’s cave. As most of literary critics and historians think, this is the place, where the action from the Homer’s Odyssey took place. It is, of course, if you believe that everything a great ancient poet said was true. There is a great view on Ramla beach from the cave. This beach is considered to be one of the best on the island. Those, who like to go underground, should visit the North Cave, Ninu’s Cave, and Xerri’s grotto. The latter is located right under an apartment building, which is quite remarkable.

You should also go up the Tas-Salvatur hill. This peculiarly shaped hill still appears in many local legends. According to one of the versions, the mountain was once a volcano and there was some black fog above it. But current research do not confirm this conjecture. On the top of the hill, you will find the Statue of Christ the Redeemer. The marvelous view from the Tas-Salvatur worths the hiking.

During the summer season, you can take part in salt picking in the local salt lakes, extending along the seaside for three kilometers. You can try to go through the gap in the rock on an air mattress in Qwara, or “the inside lake”. It will be unforgettable! If you don’t want to take such a risk, you can always just rent a boat. The gap looks quite impressive and will lead you directly into the open sea. A rest on Ramla it-Hamra beach will be much more peaceful. During the time, free from swimming, go to the Nuffara hill. There are the ruins of the settlement from the bronze age. In the flooded Ghasri Valley you can enjoy the beautiful views of the pristine nature, and in the Mielah Valley – to see the duplicate of Azure Window, which collapsed in 2017. In the Lunzijata Valley, you will find beautiful gates, the legacy of the Johannites Knights, a small chapel, and a very old fountain. There is an unusual stone mushroom at Heqqa Point. There are a lot of marvelous places on Gozo, so it is better to walk there on foot. However, public transport is not bad here, and you can always rent a car.

Gozo is a paradise for the divers. The divers mostly go to Xlendi. There are places to dive, a couple of restaurants, a hotel, and a dive-center near this beach. Inland Sea and the sunken tanker Um El Faroud are also popular among the divers. However, if you are a fan of diving and you stayed on Gozo, visit the neighbor Comino anyway. The marvelous Blue Lagoon is located here. A lot of sea animals live at shallow depth: a Mediterranean flounder, a gurnard, octopuses, barracudas. You should also visit Reqqa Point on Gozo to see the dorado, and the Double Arch reef to enjoy beautiful views and see a lot of sea breams.

However, you should go to Comino, even if you don’t plan to dive. Little deserted island, which for centuries was the hunting grounds of the Grand Master of the Order of Malta and a place of exile for renegade knights, astonishes with its beauty. Besides the Blue Lagoon you should see its continuation – Wied Skalanova – as well. You can walk through Comino in 4-6 hours, and this walk will give you the opportunity to get acquainted with the many representatives of flora and fauna of the island. There are no highways and bus service, and nothing bothers the peacefulness and serenity of the untouched nature.
