There are two ancient watch towers not far from the fortress. They were also constructed in the middle of the 16th century. The towers have survived till our days in a pristine condition but they have changed their initial purpose. The towers are now churches, one of which is Catholic and the other one is Protestant. Another interesting castle in the city is called Kasteel Bouvigne. This building is situated near an artificial reservoir. The first mention of the castle dates back to the year 1494. Over time it was expanded, and during World War II it was destroyed by a V-1 missile. It was however later reconstructed. The castle is remarkable for this: around it is a beautiful garden, where there are three sections: English, French and German gardens. Today, the castle is the favorite place of locals who wish to celebrate a wedding – it is difficult to think of a more picturesque place than this.

While walking along Kasteelplein, you can come across a unique historical landmark. We are referring to Spanjaardsgat — two watchtowers left behind from the fortifications of Breda. These towers guard the entrance to the castle of Breda (Kasteel van Breda), and they look very elegant. The towers were named in Spanish because, during the conquest of the Netherlands by the Spaniards, it was here that the Dutch struck the enemy defenses and won their fortress. Great views can be beheld from here; it is worth visiting the place at least for the sake of such gorgeous views. In order to see the beautiful graffiti on the walls of the Breda buildings, you should walk along the Achter de Lange Stallen.
