You can feel a special flavor on perhaps the most interesting street in the city – namely Ginnekenmarkt. You get to feel it, especially on Sunday when the market is full. On the market here you can buy everything that your heart desires, but antiques are particularly popular. It is also very pleasant to take a walk here. The history of this place dates as far back as the 16th century. In the past, it was the center of a large village. The city is known for having played an important role at the beginning of the Second World War – important battles took place here, and there is, therefore, a place here that makes you think about the futility of war. We are talking about the Pools militair Ereveld, where Polish soldiers who first gave their lives during the Second World War are buried.
Another interesting castle in the city is called Kasteel Bouvigne. This building is situated near an artificial reservoir. The first mention of the castle dates back to the year 1494. Over time it was expanded, and during World War II it was destroyed by a V-1 missile. It was however later reconstructed. The castle is remarkable for this: around it is a beautiful garden, where there are three sections: English, French and German gardens. Today, the castle is the favorite place of locals who wish to celebrate a wedding – it is difficult to think of a more picturesque place than this.

While walking along Kasteelplein, you can come across a unique historical landmark. We are referring to Spanjaardsgat — two watchtowers left behind from the fortifications of Breda. These towers guard the entrance to the castle of Breda (Kasteel van Breda), and they look very elegant. The towers were named in Spanish because, during the conquest of the Netherlands by the Spaniards, it was here that the Dutch struck the enemy defenses and won their fortress. Great views can be beheld from here; it is worth visiting the place at least for the sake of such gorgeous views. In order to see the beautiful graffiti on the walls of the Breda buildings, you should walk along the Achter de Lange Stallen. Many of the graffiti are truly astonishing and can definitely be considered beautiful works of art.
