Borromeo Palace, Italy

From series “The Most Wonderful Castles and Palaces”
Year: 16th century.

On the Italian island of Isola-Bella is the beautiful Palace Borromeo, whose design is uniquely beautiful and impressive. The beautiful baroque palace, built in the 16th century, is located on the almost entire territory of the tiny island and forms a unified complex with the incredibly beautiful park zone. The palace was ordered by King Charles III. Who gave the chic building on the tiny uninhabited island of his wife Izabelle.

Borromeo Palace, Italy The design of the surrounding territory was done just as carefully as building the palace. In addition to the building, there were some excellent views and terraces from which you can enjoy the panorama of Lake Magiore. The adjoining territory is adorned with the exotic plants that were made for the garden of England. Among the luxuriant undergrowths of the rare trees and flowers you can see many beautiful sculptures and fountains. One of the most important modern peculiarities of the castle park complex are the rare white peacocks.

A unique feature of the beautiful palace, hidden behind its unobtrusive walls, is the unique interiors, which include the rare marble and wood varieties, gold and precious stones. Throne Hall is considered to be the most magnificent, and in the Gobelinsaal you can see the unique masterpieces of Flemish art embroidered with gold. On the lower floor of the building are the unique shell caves decorated with the natural stalactites and shells of the whimsical forms. Isola Bella Island and the wonderful Palace have served as a venue for classical music concerts for several years. Next - Le Palais Ideal

Top destination around Borromeo Palace - Varese

Varese and the surrounding towns have much to offer to travelers. Both fans of architectural landmarks and adherents of eco-tourism will be satisfied with their vacation in this part of Italy. Having explored the majority of landmarks within the city borders, consider visiting the nearby towns to see something unique, the so-called “painted villages”. The town of Marchirolo is, perhaps, the most famous for its wall paintings and frescos. Other notable settlements are Boarezzo, Runo, Arcumeggia, San Fermo, Olona, and Peveranza. Incredibly beautiful drawings are in full harmony with the surrounding environment and look absolutely stunning.

Initially, these towns looked quite ordinary until 1983 when the administration of Marchirolo decided to change the look of the town. They invited 15 artists and asked them to create drawings on certain themes. At Marchirolo, visitors can see several famous works, such as "The Postcard from America" by Carlo Berta and Felice Filippini or Waiting by Umberto Galliani and Giovanni Repossi. New works appear almost every year to the joy of locals and numerous visitors of this small town. Besides the paintings, visitors are recommended to walk along old farmhouses and villas, getting acquainted with the rural life of the region, and then head to the Church of San Martino. The charming church is located on a hill and overlooks the entire town. Travelers, who don’t mind walking through the wood for about half an hour, should also visit the St. Paul Church. This gorgeous Romanesque church offers a breathtaking view of Lake Ceresio.
