National Cherry Blossom Festival, United States

From series “Most Enchanting and Vibrant Festivals”
Population (attendance): 700 000 pax.

Each year, the National Cherry Blossom Festival – traditionally oriental holiday - celebrates spring in Washington. It is a truly unique event that attracts the attention of thousands of people. In 1912 the mayor of Tokyo donated Washington 3000 cherry seedlings as a sign of friendship and cooperation between the great cities. It was decided then to plant the seedlings on the territory of the Potomac Park. The trees had taken roots very quickly. And more than a hundred years they delight citizens and tourists with their splendid blossoming every spring.

National Cherry Blossom Festival, United States The first festival was held in 1935. The modern festival, which lasts 5 weeks, attracts to the city more than 700 000 foreign guests. The contemporary celebration is dedicated to various fields of culture and art. Every day in Washington you can observe interesting exhibitions, seminars and special events.

Guests of the festival receive an opportunity to visit open air musical concerts and theatrical performances, art exhibitions and sporting events. Against the background of fragrant flowering trees all celebratory events seem simply unique. In the days of the festival many locals prefer strolling into the park for a picnic, the same do the guests of the city. Traditionally, the cherry blossom peak is in the second half of March. It is at this time that the festival usually starts. Next - Rhein in Flammen

Washington is an ideal holiday destination for sightseeing tourism fans. This is a real treasure trove of unique historic and architectural sights, the highest "concentration" of which can be found near the National Mall . It is an extensive park area with a length of about a mile. In the center of the Mall is the Washington Monument - an impressive large-scale granite obelisk with a height of 169 meters. The monument is dedicated to the first US president; its construction began in 1848 and was completed only by 1884. This monument is one of the world's highest buildings. Visitors to the city have a great opportunity to go up the stairs to the top or reach it by elevator.

On the four sides of the monument are four iconic landmarks - the Jefferson Memorial and the Lincoln Memorial , as well as the United States Capitol and the White House . The White House is the most significant landmark and the permanent national symbol of the United States. It is the official residence of all the presidents of the country. It is noteworthy that only the first president, George Washington, did not live in the White House. He headed the United States until 1797, while the construction of the White House was completed only by 1800. The original building has not been preserved - it was completely destroyed by the British in 1814. Subsequently, the official residence was restored, and today several halls of the White House are open to the public.
