In Germany on the territory of Gozec commune was found an unusual Neolithic building named Gozec circle. It is a complex of deep concentric form ditches, alternately with palisade 75 meters rings. In the palisade rings, we can see several gates. Actually, this part was reconstructed.
This unique historical monument was found accidentally in 1991 during the air exploration. While the specialists were examining the area from the air, they saw a clear outline made from the wheat-land. Something like Gozec circle was found in other regions of German, Croatia, Austria. Nevertheless, no one knows about its original usage. The researchers came up to the conclusion that all gates were made according to the sunrise and sunset during the solstice days.
This fact tells us that such complexes were used as a local sun observatory. The Gozec circle with the similar constructions was built approximately at the time of Neolith. More than that, there were found several interesting concurrent artefacts. Near the ditches were found places of fires and parts of human’s and animal’s bones. One of the latest findings was a headless human skeleton. Thereby that this place was connected with bloody oblations.
