From series “Amazing Ancient Fortresses Preserved to This Day”
Year: 11th century.

Arundel is one of the most beautiful and mostly majestic castles in England. The first owner of the castle, built in the 11th century, was Count Roger Montgomery, one of the richest English magnates. Less than a hundred years later, after completion of the construction work, the castle was expanded and expanded. She served as the main residency of Queen Matilda. Later the wedding of Henry Bolingbroke and Mary de Bohun took place here.

Arundel Castle, England The history of the castle is rich in incredible events. In the course of a few centuries Arundel has changed more than ten owners. During the civil war in the 17th century, the castle was heavily damaged. At the end of the 18th century, the 11th Duke Norfolk began the reconstruction of Arundel, whereby the castle gained finer and tighter neogothic features. The active reconstruction of the castle lasted in the Victorian era, so the monument is invaluable from an architectural point of view. In 1846, the Queen Victoria visited the castle and spent a few days in the magnificent rooms.

Since then, the room design has remained unchanged. Today all visitors can appreciate the splendor of the royal rooms. The castle also has some elements from the Middle Ages. During the excursion you can climb up the ancient tower towers and graze along the medieval gate. The castle is surrounded by the incredibly beautiful and interesting garden, where you can see the exotic plants, the numerous old sculptures, the forged benches the wonderful fountains.
