St Basil Cathedral, Russia When Kazan was conquered Ivan the Terrible turned back to Moscow and ordered to start the building of a new stone church at the place of the old Trinity church. There was used the red brick, which until the middle of the 16th century, was a new building material. The Cathedral of Vasily the Blessed has a number of unique peculiarities. It has an unusual architectural form. There is no clearly stated façade.

In 1561 this cathedral was the highest 65 meters peak of Moscow. Now there has placed a Historical museum that is visited by numerous tourists. Nevertheless that at the beginning of the 19th century the church was sacked by French soldiers, some original elements of the precious decoration were saved.
