In addition to the majestic cathedrals and castles, some old houses can also claim the title of outstanding monuments of architecture in the Gothic style. A great example is Mark Twain's house. It is located in Hartford. This beautiful neo-Gothic mansion was built in 1874. The world-famous writer lived in it. It was here in his office that he wrote his most outstanding works: "Adventures of Huckleberry Finn", "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer", "The Prince and the Pauper", "A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court", and many others.
The writer was forced to leave his home and move to Europe in 1891. He bought a new home in Redding after his return. His old mansion was originally privately owned. The school and library were opened there later. The beautiful old mansion was surrounded by a lush garden. It was designated as a national historic landmark of the United States in 1962.
An interesting museum is open in the old house today. Experts have tried to recreate in it a situation close to the one that reigned during the writer's life here. You can see a lot of personal items in the museum. They belonged to Mark Twain and his family members in the past. A beautiful winter garden with a fountain was restored in the mansion. Beautiful sculptures adorn it. Many works of art, luxury tableware, and beautiful antique furniture are stored in it. The writer's office, as well as a guest room with a beautiful pool table and fireplace, was restored to the house. It is most interesting to visit the Gothic mansion in the warm season. You can enjoy a walk in the garden at this time.
