Beautiful building in the old city hall remained in the city of Scranton. It is located in the very center of the city, at the intersection of Mulberry and Washington streets. Edwin L. Walter was the chief architect who designed the building. Sandstone served as the main building material for the construction of the three-story building. The city hall was completed in 1888. It has retained almost all of its original features since its construction.
The city hall has been used for its intended purpose for more than a hundred years. The office of the mayor, as well as some city officials, is located in it today. It is noteworthy that another valuable architectural monument is located next to the city hall. This is the fire department headquarters building. It was also designed by Walter. The building has unique Gothic features.
The two buildings are connected by a bridge. Together they make up an incredibly beautiful architectural complex. These buildings were officially listed on the U.S. register of most important national monuments in 1981. Hundreds of curious tourists come to admire it every day, even though tours of the old building are not conducted at present.
