Holy Land Park, USA

From series “Abandoned Places of the Earth with Distinct Marks of Civilization”
Year: 1958.

Today, different countries have not only abandoned cities, but also deserted amusement parks. Holy Land situated in the city of Waterbury is an excellent example. Its founder was the local resident, John Greco. The park has welcomed its first visitors in 1958. The founder has decided to design his park on biblical grounds. At the opening, the site was a unique entertainment venue. Each year, it hosted more than 40 000 visitors.

Holy Land Park, USA A small copy of Bethlehem and Jerusalem were built in the park. One of its main attractions was Herod's palace, as well as a 15-meter cross that could be seen from any site in the park. Scriptures were carved on the rocks. Amazing themed events were held every day. In 1984, the park was closed for renovation, and two years later its owner died. Since then, the sight is in complete desolation.

Today, virtually all of its buildings and sculptures are destroyed. The park is heavily overgrown with grass and trees. Now, the site is only vaguely reminiscent of the place where thousands of people could relax at the same time. The present appearance is in many ways obliged to park vandals. Despite this, the park was officially opened to the public in 2011. However, you walk on its territory only accompanied by a guide, as many dilapidated buildings pose a serious threat. Currently, the fate of the abandoned amusement park isn’t clear. Many favor its complete renovation, while others insist on the restoration. Next - Oatman
