But Boldt was so inspired by the idea of construction that he designed a huge six-story castle. About 300 workers were constantly working on the construction of the castle. There are 127 rooms and 365 windows in the luxurious palace.

The wife of a hotel magnate died when the castle was only a year away from completion. He gave the order to stop all construction work on the same day. The castle remained in complete disrepair for the next 70 years from 1904. George Boldt's heirs sold the old castle to the state in 1977. The transaction amount was only $1. The old castle has been a popular tourist attraction ever since. The heirs of the castle put forward only one condition.
