The town of Cochem is located in Germany, at the banks of the Moselle river. Fans of vacations in quiet and secluded places will find it pleasant. The area of this town is about 21 square km; it’s permanent population is about 4 900 people. The main attraction of the town is the old German imperial castle at the foot of the hill. On the slopes of the hill you could see famous Moselle vineyards. They are growing grapes for local wineries, where unique varieties of wine are brewed following old recipes.

The Cochem Castle is a landmark of national importance. The fortress was built over 1 000 years ago. Walk through the castle will be an unforgettable experience. There is an old dining room, a Gothic Hall and a number of other large rooms adorned with precious antiques. There is an interesting collection of ancient weapons. A number of historic buildings close to the castle survived too. Over the history, the fortress was repeatedly destroyed and rebuilt again. The current version of the Cochem landmark was built in 1874.

Another recognizable symbol of the old town is a number of nice half-timbered houses. Today, many of these buildings house mall hotels, shops, and local restaurants. The most beautiful houses are concentrated around the central square of Cochem. Tourists can combine walking around the town with exploring the enchanting valley of wine. Tours along the ancient vineyard are very informative and are always accompanied by a tasting the best local wines.
