Travel Guide to Lodz, Poland

Lodz is a famous city and one of the most important industrial centers of the central Poland. If we take a look at ancient documents, we will already see the mentioning of the old “Lodzia” village. In 1423 Lodz got the official status of a town. The name of the city also means “a boat”. This city is known as a fast developing industrial region with many working-class districts, factories, and plants. Here is also located the old Poznan complex - the largest one in Europe, also famous as a major storehouse of architectural, intellectual and cultural heritage of the country.

Numerous cultural events traditionally take place in Lodz. Among them are the festival of Polish and international techno music groups that is organized here each September; Lodz is also often called "the capital of Polish cinema." Such architectural complexes as Kindermann Villa, "Ksiezy Mlyn" and many other palaces add unforgettable charm to this place. The majority of them are now turned into museums. In Lodz you will find a large number of churches representing different religions. Here is also located the largest Jewish cemetery in Europe. Among other popular sights we should definitely mention Historical Museum, Art Museum, White Factory of Ludwik Geiler, and much more.

Many architectural sights of Lodz are built in the Baroque style and feature rich decorations of interiors and building facades. Probably, the most popular ornament here is plant motifs. Some quarters of the city and as well as separated houses are surrounded by green parks, so they form a whole architectural complex built in the modern style.
