For many years, religious traditions have played an important role for the townspeople. Special attention is always paid to organizing religious holidays here. The most beautiful entertainments are arranged for Christmas and Easter. Magnificent celebrations on the occasion of Holy Week are held before Easter. If you visit the city at this time, you can witness beautiful theatrical performances, listen to musicians, and take part in colorful festivities. A few weeks prior to Easter, local residents observe a strict fast - a complete rejection of a number of common products. Nevertheless, on Holy Week, they necessarily organize interesting fairs and gastronomic programs, during which one can enjoy traditional fasting dishes of the region. Besides traditional treats, here they sell interesting handicrafts and children's toys. Such a colorful holiday is sure to cheer up all tourists.
At first glance, the Easter traditions of Lodz may seem mundane and boring, however, there are quite original ones, like Ĺšmigus Dyngus. This tradition appeared many years ago and its history remains unknown to this day. On Easter, it is customary to arrange "water battles", during which they use all available means. Water pistols, plastic bottles and bags filled with water - any means at hand are used in the battle. Local residents simply take to the streets and spray each other with water, thus marking the end of a long fast and one of the main religious holidays. In a sense, this original entertainment symbolizes baptism and blessing.
