Maasboulevard is considered a newer part of the city but, nevertheless, it has a long history. Visitors can see that history with their own eyes – it is depicted in paving stones on the harbor wall. This unusual wall is located in the area where Primark faces the Maas. In the past, this was the busiest part of the city. However, ships and barges became larger, and so the small old harbor couldn’t serve them efficiently. The economic significance of the harbor declined steadily. At some point, this district became depressed and was on the verge of becoming a “no-go” place.

The city’s authorities took action and turned once an abandoned area into a modern entertainment hub.
