The reminder of the tragic events taking place in August 1945 is the Genbaku Dome. This is a historical construction crowned with a big globe dome. It is very surprising that the historic building is only 16 meters from the epicenter of the atomic bomb explosion and managed to survive. The building has not been intentionally reconstructed, so you can admire the same construction as it was after the explosion. The historic building was built in 1915. In the first half of the 20th century, it was occupied by the Chamber of Commerce. Today, this old building is the UNESCO World Heritage Site.
In the city, there are a lot of beautiful gardens, some of which have a status of historical attractions too. The excellent example is the wonderful Shukkei-en garden that was grown in the first half of the 17th century. After the atomic bomb explosion, the garden was literally washed away. It was restored completely only in 1951. Today, the main value of the garden is a big pond with ten artificial islands. On its shores, there are several traditional tea houses. When walking through the garden, you can admire fascinating decorative plants, delicate bridges and landscape projects.
