French Chateau de Fontainebleau is a wonderful example of Renaissance architectural style. The first owner of this palace was Louis VII. Then there lived great rulers of France, among which was Napoleon III. Since 1981 this palace-park complex is in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Every year the palace is visited by more than a million tourists. The palace is situated in a unique natural area. It is surrounded with several-hundred-old forests.
In the early medieval times, this area was a hunting place for the royal family. In the 12th century at the place of the modern palace was a small hunting seat. There is no accurate date of the Chateau de Fontainebleau building. First official mentions go to 1137. In the 15th century, the palace was empty and it was decided to rebuild it. During this reconstruction, the palace has received its modern view.
Today this old palace is a priceless architectural monument. It became home for a number of original art exponents and historical artefacts. There has saved a gorgeous royal library, which walls and ceiling are decorated with outstanding frescos. A special interest deserves inner yards with original fountains. The main peculiarity of the palace is an old stairway. The palace has a rich art collection, the antique furniture and the precious elements of decoration.
