In the downtown Honolulu at the King Street has placed the home of the Hawaii State Supreme Court. Originally it was built as a royal residence. It is surrounded with a marvellous tropical garden with palms and landscape compositions. The main outdoor decoration is the gilded statue of Kamehameha V. The residence has been built for 3 years and was finished in 1874. The major architect was an Australian Thomas Rowe. He has projected the building in an Italian Renaissance style. From Hawaii language, Aliiolani Hale translates as the "House of Heavenly Kings".
The building of new royal residence has begun under the power of King Kamehameha V. However, the king didn't live there because of the death in 1872. As a memory of this great ruler, it was decided to put his gilded sculpture in front of the residence. The first who lived there was King David Kalākaua.
At the end of the 19th century the ruler’s residence of Hawaiian was moved to another palace. And this wonderful building in Renaissance style was given to the Hawaii State Supreme Court. In 1911 the building was drastically reconstructed after it the building has lost almost all original inner decoration. The interior of the palace has changed, whereas the Renaissance facade hasn't. Nowadays a part of this huge building is an interesting museum of the court system of Hawaii islands. The library with old legislative documents attracts a lot of people.
