You can look for unique geological formations not only on the ground, but also underwater. One of the mysteries of the planet - Great Blue Hole - is located in the Atlantic Ocean, in the heart of the Belize Barrier Reef. You could fully appreciate the beauty of huge underwater caves only from bird's-eye view. Due to a sharp difference in the depth, water abruptly changes its color from sky blue to dark blue. Thus, this natural phenomenon looks very impressive.
The cave is close to ideal circular shape that enhances its spectacular appearance. At first glance, it may seem that the depth of the cave is incredibly high. In fact, it barely exceeds 100 meters, while diameter of the cave is about 300 meters. As scientists found out, the cave has formed more than 200 million years ago, during the Ice Age.
Once there have been limestone caves on that place, but when the ice began to melt, they were washed away and formed a huge bowl of rounded shape. The pioneer in this unique underwater cave was a world renowned explorer, Jacques Cousteau. He is also the author of the emergence theory mentioned above. After a large-scale study, held in 1972 by Cousteau team, the Great Blue Hole has become a center of attraction for divers from around the world. Life on the surface of underwater caves is amazing and incredibly diverse, while its bottom remains deserted.
