The world around us can surprise not only with natural attractions, but also with fruits of human hands. A great example is Tanah Lot Temple located in Indonesia. You can see this unique temple in Bali. It is located on a rocky formation that stands high above the water. Built on a rock, the temple resembles a mysterious ship at a first glance. Numerous interesting legends are associated with this religious landmark.
According to one of them, a rock has been a sacred place for a long time. The first temple was built on a rock by a Hindu Brahmin. He turned his scarf into a snake that guarded the temple from intruders and people with bad thoughts. It is noteworthy that the rocky island is now inhabited by lots of poisonous snakes. According to another legend, the brahmin saw the road to the holy place because of the light that came from a sacred source. This source does really exist. It can be found on the rocky shores of Tanah Lot. Locals believe in healing power of this light.
It’s great to admire the amazing temple, which was built in the 15th century, from a distance. It looks unique together with a rocky island. Tourists who want to take the sight from a closer distance, are allowed to go to a rock by a narrow isthmus. That can be done only during low tide. Only worshippers go directly to the temple and get inside. Not far from the temple of Tanah Lot there are other amazing temple complexes that attract curious travelers.
