Cherry pie is a true gastronomic symbol of Detroit. There is a reason for that – approximately 70% of all cherries grown in the United States are from Michigan State. Naturally, local restaurants and cafes make many interesting desserts and pastries with cherries. Regardless of a season, tourists will be able to try an amazing cherry pie that is, by the way, not hard to cook at home.
In order to make the pie, you will need 300g of sugar, 2 tablespoons of tapioca and a similar amount of cornstarch, 1.5kg of fresh or frozen cherries without stones, 1 tablespoon of lemon juice, and classic dough for tarts or strudel.
To cook the stuffing, mix sugar, cornstarch and tapioca in a deep bowl. After that, add lemon juice and cherries. Mix all the ingredients thoroughly, then cover the bowl and leave it for 45 minutes in case the cherries are frozen and 15 minutes if you use fresh cherries. After that, stir the stuffing once again and prepare the base and sides of the future pie using the dough.
