Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport is a large passenger air terminal. It is located in the territory of the city of Romulus, Michigan. It was put into operation in 1930. In the early years of the airport, it hosted Michigan Air National Guard operations gained by the United States Army Air Forces. The airport services not only the neighbouring States, but also the contiguous Canadian territories (the province of Ontario). It is one of the most modern civil aviation facilities of the USA. The airport encompasses 6 runways and 2 passenger terminals (the McNamara Terminal and the North Terminal). It is among the ten largest and busiest airports in America with its passenger traffic making up about 35 million people a year.
In the McNamara Terminal, passengers are carried by travelators as well as by express trams, which run from the terminal centre to the north and south sides of Concourse A. The terminals are interconnected by means of free transfers.
Bus number 261 connects the airport with the centre of the city of Detroit. This bus route runs through both the terminals of the airport. The Michigan Flyer provides connection with other cities of the State. AirRide links the McNamara Terminal and the Ann Arbor region. SMART links the North Terminal and Michigan (buses number 125 and 280). One can take advantage of taxi and limousine services or hire a car.
