Gamlehaugen Palace is considered to be an outstanding architectural monument, not so far ago, at the end of the 19th century in its place was a small dilapidated chalet. In 1898 it was purchased by Christian Michelson, he completely rebuilt the house and turned it into a luxurious palace. After the owner's death the palace became the seat of government, today, some of its rooms are open to visitors. Within the palace there is an interesting collection of antique furniture, hunting trophies and artwork. It is surrounded by a large orchard, which is also available for walking around.Â
